Much excitement at the Trust as we have received the keys to Watling Academy’s permanent home. The wonderful state of the art three-storey building is on a 10-hectare site on Barrosa Way in the Whitehouse development of Milton Keynes and will allow us to offer an outstanding educational experience to 1800 students over the next few years.
The main building and the separate sports block offer fantastic facilities in terms of classrooms, science labs, D&T facilities, social space, creative arts space and both indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Watling’s first cohort of 180 Year 7 students, who have been in converted accommodation at Fairfields School this year, will be transferring to the new building after May half term. They will be joined by another cohort of 300 students this September.
Andy Squires, CEO of the Trust said: ‘This is a landmark day for all those at Watling Academy and the Trust. So much hard work has gone into producing this magnificent building which will allow our students and staff to thrive. We are very grateful to our colleagues at Milton Keynes Council for all their efforts on the project and those at Fairfields School who have made our students so welcome in their temporary home. We are now focused on ensuring the move to the new building in May half term is seamless and that we are ready to welcome students to their new home on 7th June.’
