Trust CEO sees foundations laid for new Primary School

Our newly appointed CEO, Ian Joyce joined Mac Heath, Director of Children’s Services at MK Council and Councillor Zoe Nolan for a visit to the site of Watling Primary School on Calverton Road to see the foundations being put in for our brand-new primary school, which will open in September 2023.

The ground was officially broken at the site at the end of March and the contractors, Willmott Dixon, who are building the school for Milton Keynes Council have made excellent progress with the build progressing on schedule. When it is open, the Trust will run the school and offer an exceptional primary experience to 630 children aged 4 to 11. Watling Primary is designed to be an eco-friendly school capturing natural light and having intelligent controls that react to the weather to conserve energy. Solar panels and air source heat pumps will also reduce the use of fossil fuels and save on energy bills, something that is so important for schools in the current climate.

Ian Joyce said: ‘It was fantastic to visit the site with Mac Heath and Councillor Nolan to see for ourselves the foundations being laid for our new primary school. Everything is on-schedule for the school to open in September 2023 when we will be able to provide much needed primary school places for our ever-growing City. The Trust will bring all its experience of running outstanding schools in Milton Keynes to ensure that Watling Primary and its students thrive. The new school will operate in line with the ethos and vision of the schools already in the Trust, which is to provide outstanding Care, Education and Opportunity to all its students and staff.’
