Visit to Watling Primary Build Site

Trustees and Executive Team members joined Watling Primary’s newly appointed Head, Vikki Pegg for a tour of the site on Simmental Way where our ground-breaking new school is being built ready for a September 2023 opening.

It was exciting to see the new building taking shape. The build schedule is right on track with the roof, floors and staircases currently going in. Watling Primary is designed to be an eco-friendly school capturing natural light and having intelligent controls that react to the weather to conserve energy. Solar panels and air source heat pumps will reduce the use of fossil fuels and save on energy bills, something that is so crucial to schools during the cost-of-living crisis. Building on these ecological principles, Watling Primary’s students will benefit from a Forest School focus, with an emphasis on outdoor learning.

Ian Joyce CEO of the Trust said: ‘It was fantastic to visit the site and see the tremendous progress being made with the building, which means that we are on track to open in September 2023. This week we have been able to share our vision for Watling Primary with prospective parents at two Open Evenings and this together with our positive site visit means that we are closer than ever to providing an exceptional primary experience to children in the Western Expansion Area’.
